I grew up in Wellington and attended Whitireia Polytech where I completed a craft design certificate. I then moved to Hawkes Bay where I continued my art study at E.I.T., and began my own arts practice in my spare time, often coming back to found object sculptural work. It fits well with my ethos of using what's around us, repurposing and upcycling materials which may otherwise end up in a landfill. There are so many reusable resources in the world if we just take the time to see what else they could be turned into.
I now work part-time for Sam Broad who is an artist and picture framer just down the road from Mo-Co, and have been inspired in recent work by learning the picture framing trade. I now see the frame as not just an accessory to art, but as art itself.
I like to think of creativity as something that can enrich and beautify our lives, and enhance whatever activity we may be doing. I enjoy sharing that creativity with others, so its nice to have become involved with Mo-Co! Hope you enjoy the work as much as I enjoyed making it!
